My name is Jonah and I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 37. All my life I’ve been playing video games, especially when I want to calm down. I used to play free flash games, an endless trove of small games that gave me something new to play, learn, and fidget with.
Now I have a daughter, who also has ADHD, and she has recently discovered the app store on her iPad. Now I notice she is using video games in the same way. But the games in the app store are preying on her ADHD. There are microtransactions she is begging to spend her allowance on. There are ads that have her play 30 seconds of a different game that inevitably get her wanting to download that game too. And every app wants her to log in and share all her data.
That’s why I made NoCatchGames.com. It’s a curated list of free to play games that will never have any microtransactions, interrupting ads, nor require a log in. And the catalog is tagged with flags that might be useful for a neurodiverse audience. For example, you could search for games you can pause, with simple controls, and mutable music.
We’re not offering anything with any clinical benefit, just trying to make it easier to have fun in a gaming landscape that, all too often, preys on people like us. I hope you enjoy it. NoCatchGames.com.
